How We Came into Rescue
It was a "situation", just a call on the phone,
There's this dog at the shelter, that is in need of a home.
She's Cairn, we think, but Scotty perhaps,
She's little and scared and desperate for a lap.
She came to live here, with our little clan,
And soon, 'twas apparent, she had belonged to a man.
Oh she loved me too, but Daddy was her star,
Where ever he was, she was never very far.
We kept her as ours for a long year and several days,
But despite all our tries, she had to be placed.
We worked out all her "issues" and helped her be
sweet,
So in that new forever home, she'd fit nice and neat.
So it was with little Winnie, our first real true foster,
We were her first stop, after those folks that had tossed
her.
She's now in "high cotton" in a New England town,
Living the "life of Reilly", and we hear she's still
a clown.

A Poem to My Foster Dog
I am the bridge between what was
and what can be.
I am the pathway to a new life.
I am made of MUSH;
because my heart melted when
I saw you,
matted and sore, limping,
depressed, lonely, unwanted,
afraid to love.
For one little time you are mine.
I will feed you with my own hand,
I will love you with my whole heart.
I will make you whole.
I am made of STEEL;
because when the time comes,
when you are well and sleek,
when your eyes shine, and
your tail wags with joy,
then comes the hard part.
I will let you go -- not without a
tear,
but without a regret,
for you
are safe forever.
-- a new dog needs me now.
HOLES IN YOUR HEART
As they leave for the Rainbow Bridge, they leave another
hole in our heart.
We have so many ways of dealing with our time apart.
As their little souls leave their furbaby body so it can stay,
Their journey begins to the Rainbow Bridge far away.
They shall begin the search for others that left us alone
before they came,
They all become a family and start the wait together with no
shame.
Each and every one has a special place in our hearts where
they left their own little hole.
Each and everyone had their own part they played in our life
and their own special role.
For those left behind some have many holes, for some the
holes are few.
All have sorrow in their hearts, but all loved them true.
I know my heart is full of many holes for those that have
already gone ahead,
It will be full of many more holes as I can't leave a
furbaby alone and unfed.
In your life you will have a special one that becomes your
soul and one will be your heart.
Then your journey will begin to join them all and refill all
the holes in your heart.

Today I had to take a ride,
The timing wasn't exactly fitting,
My human had tears that she tried to hide,
I watched her from the passenger seat where I was sitting.
I haven't been feeling well, it's true,
And I tried not to let her see,
I tried to play with some toys that were new,
But I just didn't have it in me.
We went to a place, that I've come to know,
Where gentle hands always guide me,
A place where we went, even in the snow,
Because I was my human's priority.
Well, today that ride didn't take me back home,
I went to a different place,
A place where the sun is always out,
And colors light up my face.
I ran into a lot of old friends,
Like Gus and Buck and Mimzie,
I even saw Piper and Mandy and Beau...
...and one little one named Mishy.
I saw so many happy tongues and wagging tails,
So many I didn't even know,
But the feeling of warmth and love and peace,
Made the confusion I felt, quickly go.
I'll miss you all, my humans of choice,
But am so very happy that here I can stay,
I have no pain and can finally run,
And with ALL the toys, I can play.
I can't thank you enough,
For the life that you gave me,
Something I never would have seen,
If it were not for the Colonel and all of his friends,
I would never know the colors in this place I came to be.
Thank you so very much, I will see you again someday.
